NIK AND MRS FIEND'S WGW
MEMORIES
Nik Fiend : "We decided to start off with
"Hurricane Fighter Plane" cos we'd had to drop it out of the
set at Zillo due to the time restriction there, it was a bummer but we'd
run out of time so we thought we'd get it in first at Whitby to make sure
we got to play it! That steamed along. No time to catch yer breath before
we went into "Smells Like..." GUITARRRRRRR!!!! It even made MY
hair stand on end & I've shaved it all off!!"
Mrs Fiend : "After "I Walk The Line" as a special treat
Whitby saw the WORLD PREMIERE of new song "GOTTA HAVE IT" off
the new Information Overload album. It was the very first time we'd played
it live EVER & it was storming!"
Nik Fiend : "There were sirens going, explosions, all sorts. The sound
on "Get Into It" was a lot better than at Zillo... a lot harder.
"Bun-Ho!" was wicked too. Even the trippy songs like "E.S.T."
had a hard underlying edge to 'em , it was quite intense! "Katch 22"
was a show stopper - as always!"
Mrs Fiend : "Skulls, bones, bananas, dismernbered hands & feet
got thrown out into the crowd to their delight by Nik in "Zombiefied".
The rat was doing a solo shrieking & squeaking into Nik's microphone,
along with spacey guitar & lotsa bleeps from me."
Nik Fiend : "Garbage" was the most demonic we've ever done it,
even the road crew said afterwards that that Garbage had been "the
one"! We didn't get to play that at Zillo either so this was it's
first outing since '98, it's well known from the Nocturnal Emissions album
& the live version on the Flashbacks album, but this one was so much
better, really stomping."
Mrs Fiend : "AND THEN......... the bass pulse kicked in... the
crowd started to sway... then the bass drum rumbled into gear, the crowd
knew that they were in for something... but what??? AND THEN the
guitar riff .... dawww daw.... daw, daw, daw, dawwwww, .... dawww daw...
daw, daw, daw, dawwwww..... AAAAGHHHH!! Fucking hell it's DEAD AND BURIED!!!!
A huge cheer went up as they recognised the riff.... & they went bonkers."
Nik Fiend :"Dead And Buried had last been played live in Northampton
in 1987!! - according to live gig record keeper extraordinaire "Sir"
Moz - who reckoned that mentally he was right back at Leeds Warehouse in
1984 - job done then eh? No-one was expecting that!"
Mrs Fiend : "The crowd were so astonished that they were in 2 minds
as to what to do, surely they couldn't expect more??? After all we'd been
on-stage for about an hour & three quarters by now... we dived off
to have a quick drink - Nik gets to have his on-stage but I rarely get
a sup in so I was gasping by now!
Nik Fiend : ""We weren't gonna leave until we'd used up our full
2 hours set allowance!.... "
Mrs Fiend : After catching our breath we realised we had just enough time
to do "Ignore The Machine" which Nik dedicated to John Peel ....
it was a mesh of metal & electro... & did the business.
Nik Fiend : Dead And Buried followed by Ignore had already slayed 'em...
so the possessed version of "R.I.P." which followed completely
steamrollered 'em!"
Mrs Fiend : "We wanted to do something special with this being our
first UK gig in soooo long & we reckon with a world premiere of Gotta
Have It AND the resurrection of Dead And Buried (let alone the other songs)
this was certainly SPECIAL.
Nik Fiend: "For us and the audience."
