Para-Abnormal is a 10 track compilation CD sampler released to mark the 10th year anniversary of Alien Sex Fiend's own label, 13th Moon Records. Gathering alternative mixes, live versions and demos across all of the Alien Sex Fiend singles and albums released on the 13th Moon label since it's inception in 1996. 5 tracks are appearing on CD for the first time, of which 4 are previously unreleased mixes, & are totally exclusive to this compilation. A further 3 tracks are of previous limited availability. This CD has been completely digitally re-mastered from the original master tapes in full fiend surround sound. | We know that some of you are already members of, or are familiar with
MySpace. However for those of you completely in the dark until now - briefly
it's a worldwide online networking community type space on the net where
you can either just be a visitor & have a look around or you can sign
up as a member & create your own page (known as a "profile").
And it's free to join. Also as a member you can find & contact like-minded
people, make new friends - & find old ones!, send messages, & so
on. And yes there are loads of Fiend fans there - from all over the world.
So far we've come across fans from the UK, US, Italy, Germany, France,
Japan & Serbia & the list is growing daily. In addition to "personal
profiles" there are also lots of "band profiles". We originally
set up our Alien Sex Fiend band profile a little while ago, but unfortunately
something went 'orribly wrong, our profile got cancelled & all messages
& friends listings were lost. We don't know what happened but suffice
to say we have started the page up again from scratch, bear with us while
we jazz it up a bit but at least it's onwards & upwards from here!

successfully negotiated getting all (excluding vinyl 12 inchers) of the
13th Moon Records
catalogue of Alien Sex Fiend
releases available online as official legal
downloads. Obviously this will help spread
ASF's music to even more unsuspecting innocents! heh heh heh! These downloads
will include the studio albums - Information Overload Nocturnal Emissions (Special Edition) Flashbacks (the live album) PLUS Evolution CD single (6 tracks) Alien Sex Fiend Downloads available from the following - iTunes Napster OD2 MusicNet 7Digital Wippit eMusic Rhapsody With possibly Tunetribe and KarmaDownload to follow These downloads should be available from mid-June, although a definite date cannot be guaranteed because it is dependent on the speed that each individual dowload service gets the tracks into their system. | Recently there has been a wave of interest in Nik Fiend's earlier band,
Demon Preacher (& later The Demons) which at one time included Razzle
who was later to drum for Hanoi Rocks. First off there was a big article on punk records in Record Collector (May 2006 issue 323) & Demon Preacher's first single the 4 track Illegal Pressings "Royal Northern EP" was in their listing of the Top 100 Punk Rarities & it now sells for £80 a copy! This is amazing, considering what it took to create that EP. After spending all of his spare cash to record the tracks, Nik borrowed the money from his boss at work to get the actual records pressed, & then - in true punk stylee - he photocopied, sellotaped & hand numbered all the sleeves himself in his Tufnell Park (North London) bedsit!! Distribution was achieved via a friend's taxi, selling copies to various music shops & other outlets, luckily they sold out fast & Nik was able to pay his boss back fairly quickly. This release was championed by the late great John Peel of Radio 1 which led to a record deal with Small Wonder & the release of the infamous "Little Miss Perfect" single, which hit #3 in the indie charts back in 1978. Not long after he was made aware of the Record Collector article, Nik was asked to do an interview about Demon Preacher for a forthcoming punk book. And then to provide some photos & memorabilia for a punk website. THE GOTH ANTHOLOGY
News has reached Fiend HQ that there is a new Various Artists compilation available which includes 2 ASF tracks. It has been released by Union Square Music (UK) & is entitled THE GOTH ANTHOLOGY, subtitled "Underground Anthems From Rock's Dark Side" it is OUT NOW. It is a Triple CD Compliation, over 3 hours playing time & the 2 Alien Sex Fiend tracks are I WALK THE LINE and E.S.T. (TRIP TO THE MOON). Other bands include All About Eve, The Mission, Psychedelic Furs, The Damned, Lords Of The New Church, Nico, Cradle Of Filth, and loads of American bands on the darkwave side. Cat No : METRTCD813 ANOTHER COMPILATION I hear that Rhino Records (USA) is compiling a Gothic-rock Box Set for release sometime this summer. The Alien Sex Fiend track which will be included is NOW I'M FEELING ZOMBIEFIED. Nik & Mrs. Fiend were recently asked to do a brief interview for inclusion in the booklet notes. IGNORE THE MACHINE RE-ISSUE
& REMIX
HOT NEWS! Apparently one of the top techno DJs / producers in Japan called "Wall Five" has got his mitts on Alien Sex Fiend's first ever single - the classic song "Ignore The Machine" - & done a remix of the Electrode Mix version. Nik & Mrs Fiend were recently asked to ok this remix for the B-side. The Fiends aren't sure at the moment which version will be the A-side. It will be released on the label "Reel Musiq" as a 12" single only (hooray I hear all vinyl lovers shout!) & is mainly intended for clubs. It will be distributed worldwide by Intergroove Germany. It sounds like it will be a Limited Edition release so Liz at Blue Crumb Truck has already asked for copies to sell via the ASF online store. I have no other information or release date yet but more news on this as & when I get it...... so stay tuned! DOWNLOADS Alien Sex Fiend's label, 13th Moon Records, is currently in negotiation to get all of the 13th Moon Records catalogue of Alien Sex Fiend releases available online as official legal downloads. These will include the studio albums "Nocturnal Emissions (Special Edition)" & "Information Overload", the live album "Flashbacks", as well as the 6 track "Evolution" CD single. ALEXANDER R.I.P. / SIR GEORGE ROBEY / |
| TED ALEXANDER R.I.P.
It is sad to report that Ted Alexander, Mrs Fiend's father, died recently at the grand age of 93 & 3/4. He guested on drums and percussion on various Alien Sex Fiend recording sessions in the 1980s & early 1990s, including those for the tracks "Hurricane Fighter Plane", "It Lives Again", "Isolation" (Here Cum Germs album) & "Katch 22" (Curse album). During his career as a professional jazz drummer he played sessions with a number of big names including Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, George Shearing & Stefan Grapelli amongst others and worked with various bands & orchestras in London's West End. Always very supportive of Alien Sex Fiend, Ted went along to a number of their live shows including the Batcave Tour back in 1983 & he even celebrated his 74th birthday at one! Unfortunately after the early 1990's Ted's health began to decline & although he was unable to continue playing, he cheered The Fiends on from the sidelines. He is sadly missed by his friends & family & by all those who were encouraged in their careers by him, they all feel privileged to have known him. |

SIR GEORGE ROBEY
Now for a weird connection .... not uncommon in the strange world of Alien Sex Fiend I must say!... during his career Ted also drummed for a certain Sir George Robey who was in fact Nik Fiend's great uncle, though Nik was TOTALLY UNAWARE of this relationship until well after a number of strange coincidences had occurred connecting him & George.... For those of you who don't know, George Robey was a famous music hall artist, his stage act was considered to be quite risque & rather outrageous in the 1920s & 1930s, he also appeared in some films including 1944's Henry V with Laurence Olivier. On stage he would dress up as different characters to illustrate songs or monologues, such as wearing ladies dresses, or dressing up as a vicar, he would also sometimes use white face make up! So already you can see some connections - both he & Nik Fiend sung onstage, secondly Nik has also been known to wear a vicar's shirt - the first time was at a Batcave event at St Paul's Church, Hammersmith in London in 1983, & thirdly the white face make up! And the connection goes on - because there was a pub/venue called "The Sir George Robey" in Finsbury Park in London opposite the old Rainbow, which had many photos of George adorning its walls & during the punk days of the late 1970s Nik often went drinking there completely oblivious to the family connection. It wasn't until 1986 that Nik finally discovered that Sir George Robey had changed his original name & that he was in fact his great uncle. Once Nik had found out that he was related to Sir George, the venue owners were desperate for Alien Sex Fiend to play there & this happened in October 1986 when ASF premiered their forthcoming single "Smells Like..." & other songs from "It The Album" prior to their release to a completely sold out crowd. The number of fans who turned up & couldn't get in was so high that the venue owners agreed to leave the back doors open with the blessing of Mr Plod (i.e. the cops) so that the massed fans blocking the road outside could at least hear the band play & by doing this a riot was averted! |
| ALICE PROJECT
Nik Fiend was asked to create a painting in support for the "Alice - The Drug And Culture Project" & its side-project "Connecta". This is an independent project set up in Germany to circulate objective information on drugs especially at parties & in schools. It is not pro-drugs or anti-drugs, the project realises that in the current social & cultural climate certain people will use drugs & some of those people will have difficulties such as addiction. So in addition to education, the project also aims to provide programs for people with such problems. Wolfgang Sterneck has helped the project to hold an art exhibition (which included Nik's painting) & to create a benefit CD / DVD which it is selling for fund raising purposes, they are not using commercial distributors so they would appreciate any support. As well as Nik, other artists contributing to the project one way or another include Penny Rimbaud (Crass), Chuck D (Public Enemy), Sven Vath, Coil, Bill Laswell & Kitchens Of Distinction amongst many others. contact@alice-project.com / www.alice-project.com |

Also worth another plug here (methinks!) is a book by Wolfgang Sterneck
entitled "PSYCHEDELIKA - Culture, Vision and Criticism".
This anthology, described as "a wired trip and critical discussion
at the same time", includes historical aspects and the place of Psychedelika
in the Hippie & Techno cultures plus reports reflecting the variety
of psychedelic experiences in their visionary and also dangerous aspects.
(Phew!) Although it is a German book it is stacked with some excellent
trippy artwork including contributions from H. R. Giger, Lewis Carroll,
Aldous Huxley, Gilbert Shelton (Furry Freak Brothers) AND our very
own NIK FIEND!

| IGGY POP AND THE STOOGES
Talking of Famous Fiend Fans - it's good to hear that another of The Fiends' mates - Iggy Pop - & his band The Stooges are back on the road playing live & finally getting the acclaim they have long deserved. Yaaay! They have some releases coming out on the Easy Action label (the guy who runs it was responsible for the Alien Sex Fiend Box Set of singles which came out in 1990) - releases which have been sanctioned by the band themselves & which include totally unreleased material from original master tapes & live shows from 1972 to 1974, check out The Stooges Heavy Liquid & Extended Play releases. |

DISCOGRAPHY The Discography pages have now been updated with a full listing of all Alien Sex Fiend Singles. The list includes cover art for EVERY single (at last!!!), plus track listing, release date(s) and other information. It's taken a while to double check all the information out not to mention scanning covers! So I hope you feel it was worth the wait!
