Mornin'..... Mrs. Fiend and I have bin in and out of The Padded Cell Studio over the last several months... we found it hard not to keep going back and listening to the tunes from the Death Trip album, even when they were just stripped down to beats and samples, the bare bones... we've also been listening thru to hours of out takes & demo versions of songs - we couldn't get enough! We kept getting sucked back in.... having a go at remixing some of the tunes... going within the songs & investigating different perspectives, whether that was going into more trippy areas or trying out dub versions of songs like Land Of The Living Dead and Dance of the Dead, losing ourselves in the songs..... we've found it fascinating,... something was going on!

ART

In between all the ins and outs of the studio, I have been painting like a man possessed!!!!! At some points I have bin workin' on several paintings at once! whilst one pic woz drying i started having more ideas and began work on yet another painting. Some of these new works are now on sale thru Blue Crumb Truck (the official ASF online store). I have also bin workin' on various artworks for the cover of Death Trip 2 and also cover ideas for the DVD of The ASF Electric Ballroom show from October 2010.....

EPILOGUE

Alien Sex Fiend is our life, as the lyrics from "Get into IT" say "gave our lives to IT!" - we work on something to do with the band 24/7, because we choose to, we are not martyrs, IT is wot we do, even if it looks like nothing is happening, we are working on new songs / projects / discussing live shows for 2012, etc.... Also as 13th Moon Records is a truly artist run label, we are not after a quick buck, we actually give a shit about wot we are doing. When we decided to do vinyl for the Death Trip album, we weren't sure if we were the only ones on the planet that woz still playing vinyl records!!!! (I even still listen to cassettes in preference to digital !) We know wot we like, and judging by your reactions we weren't wrong in our thinking. We know that may be considered old school, but we are not stuck in the past - we will listen to music old or new & use equipment old or new, if it pleases us or does the job we need then it's ok, but we will not be dictated to by the latest fads or what the media says & give up using our own minds.... & ears!

DEATH TRIP has proved to be a really popular album & from your many comments a lot of you want MORE of IT, & if WE'VE become so intrigued by these new & further aspects of Death Trip that we're discovering, then we reckon YOU will be excited too!... so we've been thinking it would be cool to take the whole concept of the album further & work towards creating a "Death Trip 2" album (as a working title)... since the earliest days of ASF we'd do different versions of songs & back then there was plenty of room for such alternate mixes on 12" singles, or there'd be different mixes on the 7" & 12", but this will be something different, a different way of presenting such alternate mixes - an entire album's worth! (hopefully!) Stay tuned for further updates on this project....

In the middle of this we had a massive problem when the mixing desk and power unit blew up, so that took a lot of re-wiring and arsin' about 2 get it back on track - without our mate Linda Clinker, it could've run into a lot of dosh to replace all the fucked equipment - but Linda - bless her - donated her old mixing desk and power supply and with some online advice helped get us operational again.

DVD

Yes we are still workin' on the DVD of The ASF Electric Ballroom show as & when we can along with the editors who are working on a number of projects themselves... as you probably already know there were a number of problems with the soundtrack recording... but we have managed to salvage the following songs ...

Seconds to Nowhere / B.B.F.C. / Boneshaker Baby

In some ways it's a bit of a weird mixture with some lesser-known songs included, but it does cover tunes from right across the years, & we think it'll be more interesting this way - instead of a "Greatest Hits" package, it's much more "out there" !! Which - after all - is in keeping with what we're about.... !

Nik Fiend says : When I watched this interview, I was rolling about laughing over some parts of it! I remembered Mrs Fiend & I doing the interview after the show in Bochum, back in September 2010. A lot of people ask all sorts of questions about Alien Sex Fiend all the time & this interview will give you some answers & give you some insight & a bit of background on the band too. Also there is a little bit about my art. AND you get to see Mrs Fiend's legs in colour!

Mrs Fiend says : For an underground band like us to have 3 different tracks on a PRIME TIME TV Series is amazing! We're not exactly user-frienDly like Coldplay or Elton etc!! Either someone involved with this series is well into our music or they've done thier homework because the tracks are from 3 very different albums, & they're not even the better known tracks either! I wonder if they'll ever use something like "Intensify the Treatment" (from the recent Death Trip album) one day, or maybe it's toooo scary for 'em!!

Nik Fiend's thoughts on those early days

Demon Preacher was Nik Fiend's earlier band, prior to starting Alien Sex Fiend in 1982. The original 4 track "Royal Northern EP" was released on the Illegal Pressings label (see pic on far left) & was Demon Preacher's first single. Record Collector (May 2006) had it listed as selling for £80 a copy in their Top 100 Punk Rarities !

After spending all of his spare cash to record the tracks, Nik borrowed the money from his boss at work to get the records pressed, & - in true punk stylee - he photocopied, sellotaped (you can see the yellowing tape around the edge of the record on the far left!) & hand numbered all the sleeves himself . The record caught the late, great John Peel's ear and eye and sold out quickly enough for Nik to re-pay his boss & for Small Wonder to offer a record deal for a follow-up, the infamous 'Little Miss Perfect' which hit #3 in the indie charts back in 1978.
